Excitement over new releases

In a previous post I talked about not buying too many albums on the day they are released. There have been a few where I have done that, but normally I just think that I will get it when I get a chance to go to the store. Now just a few months ago I was very excited before Iron Maiden's A matter of life and death came out. I think it was due to reading things on blogs and sites that I had a feeling to was going to be good. It was the only CD I bought last year on the day that it came out. It was a good feeling though and I was glad to be as excited about an album. It's part of the fun I guess. This year I may start to get excited about the new Rush once the details become clearer about when it's due out and what it may be like. I am starting to get excited about the new Fu Manchu which is due out in a few weeks.

Do you ever get excited about new releases and buy them the day the come out? If so then what are some that you have gotten excited about over the last few years?

Boy it's been a long while since I have gotten excited about a new release. I think the last album I bought on release was Rammstein' Reise Reise and that was due to the strength of their Mutter album. I was'nt so happy with the Reise Reise release though as it wasn't as good as Mutter. So I didn't get Rosenrot on release which was actually a good release though. I heard a lot of good things on the new Iron Maiden as well so I'll probably pick it up at some time as I am a Maiden fan - especially with Bruce. As their last releases was pretty weak I didn't pick this one up until some reviews.

It's been awhile for me, although with Amazon, it's easy to pre-order now. I did pre-order the Led Zeppelin DVD and How The West Was Won. I actually went out and bought a DVD player the DAY I found out a Zeppelin DVD was coming out :)

I remember being in line for Guns & Roses Use Your Illusion, they opened the doors to the local Record Bar (later Tracks, later Blockbuster Music...) at 12:01 the day (night?) of the release. I was waiting around with a whole bunch of other fans to be the first to get Illusion I and II. I also remember doing the same thing for Metallica, the black album. it was like a gathering. we all sat around and swapped concert stories and talked about all the different groups we liked. Ahhhh...those were the days. I don't know if record stores do that anymore.

The two most recent I can think of are 10,000 Days and O:M II

Mark - Like you, I rarely get too excited for a new release, though Iron Maiden and Rush are easily my top 2, and probably the only exceptions to the rule.

One album that immediately pops into mind was Opeth's Ghost Reveries. Scrape Records, the metal store a few blocks from my place, stayed open till midnight to sell copies the day it was released. I wandered down and picked up a copy with all the other Opeth fanatics. It was a good time; you don't get that kind of experience shopping online!

Maybe I'm in the minority here but I still go to the record store on Tuesdays to pick up the new albums the day of release. It's more of an availability issue rather than full blown excitement depending on the release.

The Iron Maiden album is a good example, I was genuinely excited and wanted to hear it. The same with the last Priest, Paul Stanley, and UFO: must haves from day one.

The latest MSG had been out for a few months before Locomotive Records licensed it for the USA, I hadn't bothered to get it because I could "point and click" anytime. When I saw it advertised for $9.99 at the record store for it's U.S. release, I went that Tuesday because I knew only one, maybe two, copies would be stocked.

I haven't been too excited about new releases for a while.

One that is starting to build up my excitement for 2007 is the new studio Whitesnake disc. The 4 new tracks on the double live album released last year were really good. Needless to say, my hopes are set pretty high.

There is a bunch of stuff on the horizon that I am looking forward to, but nothing else that I have real excitement over. Now if Van Halen said they were releasing a new disc with Diamond Dave. I would be extremely excited.

there's so many of them I can't even recall, but I will say I remember how pissed off I was when I bought Def Leppard's Hysteria...all of that anticipation and excitement and I was just livid when I bought it the day it came out...to this day I still only really like "Gods of War"
